Sony Buys Bluepoint: All About The Brand's Recent Acquisition

Sony buys Bluepoint Games. Yes, you read that right. Renowned as the developers behind Shadow Of The Colossus and Demon’s Souls remakes, Bluepoint Games have been acquired by Sony. This Austin-based studio is climbing the success stair pretty quickly. Let’s take a look at its origin, Sony’s acquisitions, and Bluepoint’s remakes!

Sony Buys Bluepoint

Sony’s Playstation Studios announced on Thursday that it has now acquired Bluepoint Games. The news though didn’t come by as a surprise. Since a social media slip-up by Sony in June 2020 during the announcement of Housemarque‘s acquisition, the rumors regarding Bluepoint’s acquisition were doing two rounds too.

Instead of Returnal developer Housemarque, Sony tweeted an image with Bluepoint Games on it.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation Studios were bound to acquire Bluepoint Games at some point though. With Bluepoint’s bestselling Demon Soul Remake for Playstation Five and Shadow Of The Colossus remake for Playstation Four along with the Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and God of War Collection this acquisition was inevitable. Earning fame and acclaim for Playstation remakes, Bluepoint sure has come a long way. Although the terms of the acquisition have not been announced, Herman Hulst, Head of Playstation Studios was quoted praising Bluepoint Games.

The acquisition is obviously good news for Bluepoint Games. It’s a step forward in the right direction. Marco Thrush, President of Bluepoint Games made his delight evident in another statement at the same release.

Both Hermen Hulst and Marco Thrush believe that this acquisition will be mutually beneficial. Playstation Studios has also confirmed that Bluepoint will be working on original titles for them.

Bluepoint Games

Founded by Andy O’Neil and Marco Thrush in 2006, Bluepoint Games Inc. is based in Austin, Texas. Popular for its video game remasters and remakes Bluepoint became famous after remastering old titles for Playstation. Thanks to Bluepoint Games, players found themselves being hugely entertained by Demon’s Souls, Shadow Of The Colossus, Uncharted, and Gravity Rush.

Bluepoint & Sony’s Future Plans

Sony’s been delaying its first-party games since 2021 started and is currently under nerve-racking pressure from the community. Excluding Ratchet and Clank, games like God of War: Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, and Horizon Forbidden West have been delayed. Sony is trying to show off the killer content it has supposedly curated for the fans.

To achieve its goals Sony has not just acquired Bluepoint, Housemarque and Firesprite (developers of The Playroom) have joined them too. Not much is known about Bluepoint’s next game but an old game is sure to remaster.
