Cyberpunk was launched in a blast on 10th December 2020 on almost all platforms. These platforms include PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Stadia. With great graphics and the ultimate storyline featuring Keanu Reeves, the game was developed for more than six years. With its first trailer launched in 2013, the game has come a long way from basic graphical model to RTX enabled graphics.
Although, after the release, not everyone was happy as they expected. The game featured some big bugs and DMCA copyrighted music in their gameplay. This made all the content creators frustrate. Getting warnings from the DMCA and constant struck soon witnessed the rage of all players.
In this post, we’re gonna look at the conflict between Sony and Cyberpunk 2077, which caused a temporary ban for Cyberpunk.
Sony removes Cyberpunk 2077 from it’s Store
On 18th December 2020 (Morning), Sony revealed on Twitter that they would remove Cyberpunk 2077 regarding performance issues. Soon later, all the players started panicking about their purchase of the game. As an answer to this, Sony stated that a refund would be initiated for the players who purchased it. The exact tweet statement was as follows –
Furthermore, all the gaming community started tweeting about this huge issue and demanded answers for many things. Players played the game for the past 8 days and had a great time, but many players reported innumerable bugs and performance issues even on the new PS5. The game never managed to reach 60 FPS on 4k ultra settings!
Why did Sony removed Cyberpunk from Platstation Store?
The reasons for the removal are regarding the game’s performances in the latest PS5. PS5 was rumored to be the best console on paper till now, and even on that, the game didn’t perform very well. An average of 55-56 FPS on 4k resolution added a very laggy experience in the game. As Sony received many complaints regarding the game, they collectively decided that the game will be removed temporarily until its fixed.
“The technology conglomerate announced it was removing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store until further notice and that it will be offering full refunds to customers who purchased the game digitally. The move follows a week of issues regarding the game’s performance on last-gen consoles.”

This event clearly stated that Sony had problems with the game’s performance even on the last-gen consoles. As PS5 was released only a few months ago, the buyers expected to run the game smoothly with at least 144hz to match the screens refresh rate. To the surprise, this myth was completely broken on the day when Cyberpunk got released. Even after developing the game for 7 years, the developers failed to fix many bugs and performance stabilities.
Will I get a refund for my purchase of Cyberpunk on the Playstation Store?
Yes. The Playstation team and Cyberpunk 2077 team togetherly released a portal where you can demand refunds. Every player who has purchased the game on PlayStation Store is liable for the refund and if you wish to refund the game, you can do it.
For the physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077, they will be working and will receive updates for the games for a lifetime. Unfortunately, you cannot apply for a refund if you have purchased the physical copies.
Cyberpunk clearly stated in the following tweet regarding all the purchases on the PlayStation store –
“Following our discussion with PlayStation, a decision was made to temporarily suspend the digital distribution of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation Store. You can still buy physical versions of the game in brick and mortar stores and online. All purchased digital and physical copies of the game will continue to receive support and updates as we continue to improve your experience.
According to our knowledge, starting today, everyone who is not willing to wait for updates and wants to refund their digital
copy of the game can do so by submitting a request at https://www.playstation.com/cyberpunk-2077-refunds/.
We are working hard to bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to PlayStation Store as soon as possible.”

How to refund Cyberpunk 2077 on Playstation Store?
Follow the steps below to initiate a refund for your Cyberpunk 2077 game purchase –
- Open Playstation Website and log in to your account.
- After logging in, head over to Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds to submit a request.
- Click on the button saying, “Click here to submit a refund request.”
- Wait for the Sony team to process your refund.
Note – If you have purchased the physical game copy of Cyberpunk 2077 for your Playstation, you cannot refund it. But you’ll continue to receive further updates from the and lifetime of support from the Cyberpunk team.

As said by the Cyberpunk team, the developers try their best to bring back the game to the PlayStation Store and solve the issue as soon as possible. But until then, there will be no Cyberpunk for PlayStation users. I hope CD Projekt Red resolves all the problems as soon as possible and relaunch the game on the PS Store.
