Overwatch League 2021 Play Off Day 1 results are out and yes, we’re just as thrilled as you are! Philadelphia Fusion, Washington Justice and San Francisco Shock snatch the final spots. Reverting back to the 2020 format, the Overwatch League ’21 will have no LAN event plans.

Turning their backs on previously scheduled live events in Dallas and Los Angeles the Overwatch League ’21 Playoffs are one of the most anticipated matches of the season. The playoffs are now being played in Hawaii and will lead to the Grand Finals on 25th of September. You will be able to view all the matches and events on the official OWL YouTube channel.

The Playoffs and Grand Finale has been squished together into five days. This truly spectacular event will make sure Overwatch League fans stay hooked onto it from the beginning to the end. This league is no less than a gladiator battle of ancient times. Teams have used their brain and brawn to reach where they are now. And we assure you, that is a feat in itself.

Only one team will stand on the remains of their opponents in the end and they will take home a prize amount of $1.5 million dollars. Teams have already gone through 16 regular season games, four tournament cycles and play in matches for this tempting reward. Only a handful of teams could claw their way to the top and will now battle against each other locally. The action kick started at 7 on 21st September with Washington Justice locked into a fierce fight against Dallas Fuel.

A simple search on Google will put amateur minds at rest. But let us explain it to you in a in a simpler manner. Overwatch is described as a team-based multiplayer first person shooter game that assigns players into two teams of six, where each player selects from a large assemble of playable characters called “heroes“.

The teams have to race against time itself while completing map-specific objectives. With additional free characters, maps and modes, Overwatch was first released on May 2016. Overwatch League 2021 is the fourth installment and although the pandemic has affected OWL cities, the fans are still just as excited.

TOURNAMENTS

With the number of Tournaments increased to four (May Melee, June Joust, Summer Showdown and Countdown Cup teams would be competing against each other region-wise. Categorized into two divisions, East (APAC) and West (NA) the East went upto eight teams, what with the shuffling of Valiant, Fusion and Spitfire.

This season also saw League Points being introduced which would help in determining standings as opposed to record. Each win will get you a League Point and the higher your tournament placement is, the more you will be rewarded.

The season started off with May Melee and ended with the Justice and Outlaws in top seeds at 4-0.The championing Shock finished at third while the Fusion gained the seat atop the standings at 4-0. The three teams made their way into Knockouts as Justice and Outlaws stood defeated by Mayhem and Fuel. The Dragons defeated Fusion whilst Chengdu got itself the other East spot.

A double-elimination tournament in the May Melee had the Dallas Fuel beating Shanghai Dragons and winning a stunning amount of $100,000. Hangzhou Spark hosted the league’s first Homestand and witnessed three teams finishing 4-0 with Gladiators, Shock and Spark standing undefeated.

Forbes refers to Shanghai Dragons as the best team and have described their remarkable winnings in this season as a fair warning to it’s contenders. The Overwatch League 2021 Play Off Day 1 results are going to surprise some and shock some. Washington Justice battled against Dallas Fuel while Philadelphia Fusion fought with LA Gladiators. San Francisco Shock went up against Shanghai Dragons and Atlanta Reign clashed with Chengdu Hunters. Dallas Fuel beats Washington Justice while LA Gladiators make Philadelphia Fusion taste defeat. The Shanghai Dragons destroy Sam Francisco Shock in today’s match. The Chengdu Hunters remain undefeated after sending Atlanta Reign sulking back to their homes will clash against Dallas Fuel on 23rd. The league has also revealed its OWL 2021 MVP. Highly influential in the fantastic end of season finish Chengdu Hunters DPS Xin “Leave” Huang couldn’t believe it when he took the award. “I couldn’t believe I even got nominated, since there are so many other skilled and impressive players in the league,” said Leave. “The fact that I was able to win MVP over all of those players—I’m just grateful for everyone’s support.”

Rewards

Viewers can earn five Overwatch League tokens per every hour of the live broadcasts and encores. You can also grab more perks during playoffs and Grand Finals that will include skins, sprays and bonus tokens! The League Champion will win $1,500,000 and the Runner-Up will go home with $700,000. Whoever ends up being third will win $350,000 while the fourth, fifth and sixth will get an amount of $250,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
